Vanes Estate residents in Uitenhage say farm animals roaming the affluent suburb are eating up their properties’ value and damaging the image of the suburb.
Since last year, residents have complained constantly about several unflattering additions to their once peaceful neighbourhood.
Late last year the suburb was invaded by seven stray pigs, coupled to the ever-expanding Mandelaville informal settlement which has already filled the 2.5km² of vacant land surrounding the suburb.
Recently cows have “moo-ved their way” to the top of residents’ grievance list, according to Vanes Estate resident Patrick Vaaltyn, 53, who has lived in the area for more than a decade.
