Popular award-winning Umhlobo Wenene FM presenter Saba Mbixane was in a critical but stable condition yesterday following a motorcycle accident.
Mbixane was airlifted to the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha on Monday afternoon following the crash.
Station manager Phumzile Mnci said doctors had asked for an undisturbed 72 hours to work on Mbixane.
“He is in a critical but stable condition. We urge fans to let the doctors do their jobs and respect this period. We will keep them informed,” Mnci said. Mbixane was involved in the accident at Mahlahleni village in Mount Frere. He was initially admitted to Madzikane Ka Zulu Memorial Hospital in the town, but was later transferred to Mthatha.
Mbixane presents three shows for the station – one on agriculture and two on traditional music.
He is also a farmer who specialises in growing maize meal and vegetables in the Mount Frere region.
