Rival’s TV advert bitter pill for chocolate maker

Which is the “master chocolatier” – Lindt or Ferrero Rocher?

Popular Swiss chocolate brand Lindt, manufactured by Chocoladefabriken Lindt & Sprüngli, headed to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) of South Africa, accusing competitor Ferrero Ithemba RSA, the local branch of the worldwide Ferrero company, of imitating and exploiting its advertising campaign in a TV commercial.

But the advertising watchdog has ruled in favour of Ferrero Rocher.

The TV commercial at the centre of the chocolate war opened with a shot of a Ferrero pastry shop with a chef stirring melted chocolate with a whisk.

It showed the viewer how the chocolate was made – from the moulding to the hazelnut being placed in the tray to the dipping of the chocolate and the branding of each chocolate ball.

It then showed a woman at a social event, presenting the box of chocolates to the host. The commercial ended with a voice-over saying: “Ferrero Rocher – A golden gift for your golden moments.”

    I cannot understand the fuss about Ferrero Rocher, it is nothing special! I would much rather have a few bars of chocolate (cooled in the fridge of course)
