Smiling runners, perfect weather and a great atmosphere meant the Friendly City Marathon truly lived up to its name.
Hundreds of runners gathered at the Fountain Vineyard Church in Walmer Heights from 5am on Saturday, when the fittest athletes started their 42km race.
Less daring runners had a choice between the 10km and 5km races, with a further 5km fun run attracting many who just wanted to enjoy the day.
Uitenhage marathon runner Melikhaya Malinga ran the Friendly City race for the second consecutive year and said the conditions were perfect for running.
