Portia “Pankie” Sizani told a Port Elizabeth woman to hand over R20 000 after money was deposited into her bank account by the Eastern Cape Education Department.
This was done despite the woman not being employed by the department.
This emerged at the continuation of Sizani’s ghost teachers fraud trial at the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court yesterday.
Sizani, wife of ANC parliamentary chief whip Stone Sizani, is accused of defrauding the department of more than R1.2-million by processing several fraudulent applications for Grade R teaching posts.
The 46-year-old has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Sizani, of Summerstrand, was employed as an Early Childhood Development district coordinator at the time.
