City loses millions after no traffic fines processed for 11 months
No traffic fines were processed by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality for 11 months of last year due to a shutdown of the city’s traffic computer system.
This, after the metro appointed a new service provider, Mavambo Intelligent Transport Solution, in April last year which battled to decode the information on the software system used by the previous company, Traffic Management Technologies.
At a safety and security portfolio committee meeting yesterday, executive director Shane Brown reported that Mavambo was appointed to process all prosecutions and to provide monthly statistics for the portfolio committee.
“This service provider was unable to perform and meet its obligations as per the requirements of the tender due to non-compatibility with the existing computer network at the time of their appointment, and for various other reasons.
