A top civil servant in premier Phumulo Masualle’s office spent his fourth night in custody after appearing in the East London Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with an allegation of rape.
He was arrested on Friday evening and cannot be named until he has pleaded.
His bail application was postponed to today.
The 24-year-old complainant, who cannot be identified, went to authorities the day before his arrest.
Masualle’s spokeswoman, Nomfanelo Kota, said yesterday they had not been officially informed of the man’s arrest.
“We are still gathering more information on the matter,” she said.
