A Motherwell school received a major boost to starting the year off efficiently after receiving a generous donation of stationery.
In a joint venture between Chinese automotive giant First Automotive Works (FAW) and the China-Africa Development Fund, Melisizwe Public Primary School received a helping hand with school supplies for the pupils.
With the school now officially reopened, there was a collective sigh of relief from staff when they heard of the generous donation.
The initiative was undertaken by the Coega Industrial Development Zone which has set up a social responsibility programme aimed at assisting schools in underprivileged communities.
Melisizwe is one of six schools in the Motherwell and Wells Estate area to have benefited from the project. It has helped nearly 300 pupils to date, with the schools receiving uniforms also sponsored by the same project last year.
Principal Dennis Nomavuka said the school was really fortunate to have people in the community who cared.
“We really appreciate the donation and with more help from community members and big businesses, we will strive to nurture the leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
