Court told woman claims she is still pregnant – two years later.
A police woman who was convicted of fraud after pretending to be pregnant will be sent for mental observation after a probation officer who conducted an interview with her told the court that even two years later she maintains that she is pregnant.
probation officer’s report and correctional supervision report had been compiled ahead of sentencing of Joyce Zoleka Magongo, 58, a former lieutenantcolonel of Uitenhage.
Magongo, who was based at Mount Road police station, resigned from the SA Police Service shortly after being caught out.
She had taken paid maternity leave between October 2012 and February 2013, after claiming she was due to have a baby.
However, Magongo had not been pregnant and her suspicious employers caught on to her after requesting a copy of the baby’s birth certificate, which she could not produce.
