Three killed in suspected gang-related shootings

Port Elizabeth’s northern areas were rocked by a spate of suspected gang-related shootings at the weekend in which three people were killed and one was wounded.

Two men were shot in separate incidents in Helenvale on Saturday while the bodies of two others were found in Korsten and Bethelsdorp early yesterday morning.

“The body of a 21-year-old man was found in Boston Street, Korsten, with gunshot wounds in the back and stomach,” police spokesman Alwin Labans said.

The body was found after residents reported hearing gunshots. Seven spent cartridges were found.

Police were also called out to investigate a shooting late on Saturday night in Bellflower Street, Bethelsdorp, where the body of a 27-year-old man was subsequently found.

On Saturday shortly before 6pm, a 25-year-old man and his friend, 30, were walking in Ambraal Street in Helenvale when a man walked up to them and fired five shots.

The 25-year-old man was not hit but his friend was shot in the left shoulder and in his stomach.

He was in a stable condition in hospital, Labans said.

Earlier in the day, a 43-yearold man was killed when he was shot in the face at his home in Chamoi Street, Helenvale.

The police are investigating the shootings.
