The political head of Nelson Mandela Bay’s infrastructure and engineering department, councillor Andile Mfunda, has put pressure on his staff to replace ageing water pipes in New Brighton’s KwaFord area following several water-supply disruptions.
Mfunda, who received complaints from the community last month, said the metro’s ageing infrastructure was to blame for the regular stoppages.
“We will replace the ageing pipes as a matter of urgency. We can’t frustrate our people, because water is life.”
A meeting will be held with the community at 5pm on Monday at the Ithembelihle High School, where Mfunda’s team of managers will respond to the residents.
He apologised to residents for the inconvenience.
