Helenvale man shot

GELVANDALE police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a man was wounded in the leg on Saturday in a suspected gang shooting.

Police spokeswoman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the incident occurred at about 3pm in Stanford Road in Helenvale when a 31-year-old man was walking down the street.

A taxi allegedly drove past the man and the door opened, with multiple gunshots from the vehicle directed at the man.

“He tried to run away but he was injured in the process. He sustained a gunshot wound to the lower right leg and was taken to Livingstone Hospital. The taxi fled the scene,” she said.

Van Rensburg said the shooting was believed to be gang-related.
