THERE were punches, blood and mayhem at one of Port Elizabeth’s most popular pubs when about 50 staff and patrons were involved in a brutal bar room brawl which landed a barman in hospital and left a trail of destruction.
The free-for-all at Barney’s Tavern in Summerstrand on Sunday night also saw the suspected perpetrators – a group of five men – allegedly attempt to throw a bouncer off the first-storey deck balcony of the beachfront venue.
Police arrested three suspects, but only after the chaotic ruckus had resulted in smashed tables, chairs and a sliding door with blood spattered on the floor and broken glass in and outside the bar.
Witnesses said the fight broke out between 9pm and 10pm, shortly before the pub’s closing time.
