Detective operation nets 21 suspects

DETECTIVES from five police stations within the Motherwell cluster conducted a combined search operation for wanted suspects this week.

The detectives from Ikamvelihle, Motherwell, Kwazakhele, New Brighton and Kwadwesi searched for suspects from Wednesday (December,2) night at 10pm until 6am today (December, 4).

A total of 21 wanted suspects were arrested during this operation.

The arrested suspects’ crimes rage from assault to domestic assault, burglary, contravention of protection order, robbery, malicious damage to property, drunken driving, shoplifting and intimidation.

Warrants of arrests were executed where persons failed to appear before court, and the suspects were arrested.

Motherwell cluster commander Major General Funeka Siganga said: “Many of our wanted suspects go out of their way to elude police and arrests. This prolonged criminal presence in the streets of our city creates feelings of fear and helplessness in the minds of our community.

“These 21 arrests, and further operations to follow, will continue to showcase the SAPS determination to bring criminals before court, no matter how big or small these crimes are.”

The 21 arrested suspects will be appearing on case-to-case relevant basis before the Motherwell and New Brighton Magistrates Courts on Friday December, 4 and Monday December, 7 today or on Monday, depending on the various areas where these crimes were committed.
