Man sentenced for shooting taxi driver on N2

A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to 38 years imprisonment by the George High Court for the murder of a taxi driver who was shot in the head while driving on the N2.

Zanemali Laho from Thembalethu in George, was sentenced last week for the murder which took place on May 25, 2014.

The taxi driver was shot while driving on the N2 between the Garden Route Mall and Thembalethu. He died in hospital a few hours after the shooting.

When police investigated the scene they discovered that the cellphone of the deceased had been taken. The investigation led to the arrest of Laho three weeks after the shooting.

Two cellphones, one belonging to the deceased, ammunition, clothes, documentation, a sim card and a firearm were recovered in Laho's possession.

He was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment  for murder, four years imprisonment for theft of the cellphone,  eight years imprisonment for illegal possession of a firearm and six years imprisonment for illegal possession of ammunition which makes a total of  38 years imprisonment.

Thembalethu station commander, colonel Reuben France applauded the investigating officer for the good work he had done which led to a great success.
