TWO Nelson Mandela Bay stand-up comedians will represent the Eastern Cape at 99% Xhosa Comedy, one of South Africa’s top vernacular comedy shows.

99% Xhosa Comedy will be on at the Boardwalk Casino on Saturday.

Bruce Ntlabathi, 20, and Siya Seya, 31, both of Motherwell, are excited to be part of the lineup.

“I am looking forward to performing in my home town for the first time. I [was] in 99% Xhosa Comedy last year in East London.

“My fans can expect a lot of laughter. The comedians who are coming are all funny people,” Ntlabathi said.

Seya, who moved to Cape Town recently, said he could not wait to perform his new material.

“I am grateful to the organisers of 99% Xhosa Comedy for giving me this opportunity again this year. They first gave me the platform to showcase my talent in 2011.

“Back then the lineup was made [up] only of Zulu- speaking comedians.

“I was the only Xhosa guy and, funny enough, I performed my set in English.

“Of course that did not sit well with the fans, but over the years I have mastered my craft,” Seya said.

Also in the lineup are Siya B, Tol Ass Mo, Zikhona Msuthu, Sifiso Nene, Khanyiso Kenqa, Anele Shube and Simphiwe Shembe.

The show’s producer, Monwabisi Grootboom, said he had been kept busy this year with a calendar of events to celebrate the 10th anniversary of 99% Zulu Comedy, another brand in his group.

The show toured the country.

“As a result we will only be able to make one stop in East London and [one in] Port Elizabeth this year.

“We encourage anyone wishing to come to get their tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointments,” Grootboom said.

Tickets are available at Shoprite/Checkers, priced at R150.
