THE government has still made no announcement on where it intends to find the additional funding to cover the zero percent higher education fee increases, but says “the money will be found”.

During a post-cabinet briefing yesterday, Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe said the cabinet had welcomed the announcement of the zero percent increase and the establishment of a commission of inquiry into the issues raised by students during the Fees Must Fall protests.

However, questioned on where the money would come from, he said: “The decision has been taken by the president. The money will be found.”

Pressed for more detail on where the government was likely to look, he said: “I am not the minister of finance. I assure you the money will be found. This is government.”

Meanwhile, he said, President Jacob Zuma would be announcing the commission of inquiry and its terms of reference and scope in the next few days.
