Two suspects arrested by border police with tik valued at R2m

Border police have arrested two men in Cape Town found to be in possession of tik with an estimated street value of R2m.

“This morning members from the Anti-Drug Smuggling Unit of Border Police‚ based at Cape Town International Airport‚ responded to information of a parcel allegedly containing drugs that was to be collected at an Airport Industria based company and conducted observation at the premises.

The parcel had been couriered from Kempton Park‚ Gauteng‚” Western Cape police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said.

At approximately 9am‚ a Fiat hatchback with two male occupants departed from the premises and were pulled over by the Border Police members‚ he said.

“Upon searching the vehicle they discovered a bag containing smaller bags of tik in the front of the vehicle. The members then searched a box in the boot of the vehicle from which they recovered more bags containing tik.

“In total‚ 7 kilograms of tik with an estimated street value of R2 million was seized‚” Lt Col Traut said.

The two suspects - a 30-year-old man from Durbanville and a 34-year-old man from Kuilsriver - were arrested for dealing in drugs and are due to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Monday‚ he said. -RDM News Wire
