Foreign national shot during robbery in Wells Estate

A foreign national was shot and wounded during a suspected botched robbery in Sityhotyholweni Street, Wells Estate, at about 8:30pm on Wednesday night (09/09/2015).

According to police, the 38-year-old Somali man, who lives in Motherwell, was shot after parking his vehicle in the street while walking to his cousin's spaza shop.

Police spokesman Constable Mncedi Mbombo said three  armed men ambushed him as he parked.

"Three men armed with firearms and knives approached him as he exited his Toyota bakkie.

They demanded money and valuables however he resisted.

A scuffle ensued and one of the gunmen fired several shots at him.

He was shot in the upper body and leg,” Mbombo said.

“At this stage the victim is still in a critical condition in Livingstone Hospital and details remain sketchy.”
