THOUSANDS of school children who had to walk many kilometres to get to school have had their travelling time slashed thanks to an innovative programme in which Bay Automotive giant Volkswagen South Africa has become involved.

With World Vision South Africa, the group will work at getting the bicycles to schoolchildren and monitoring them to ensure they are used for the right purposes. Pupils and parents have to sign a two-year contract stipulating the terms and conditions of use of the bicycle. - Amir Chetty
