HUNDREDS of KwaNobuhle commuters saw their journey to work yesterday take a slight detour after being pulled off the road by the Uitenhage and District Taxi Association and Uncedo Service Taxi Association.

This was done jointly by the associations to monitor overloading and speeding.

UDTA general secretary Siyanda Mbanjwa said the two associations had a meeting to discuss a way forward and decided on the roadblocks after receiving several letters of complaint from concerned residents.

“Taxi overloading is something we’ve always monitored, but the letters prompted us to take a step and do this joint operation,” Mbanjwa said.

The roadblocks, which started on Tuesday, were conducted within the associations’ own ranks and they only pulled over their own taxis. -Nomazima Nkosi
