AFTER 21 years, Swedish pop-rock duo Roxette will return to Nelson Mandela Bay in February, for one of four South African concert dates as part of their XXX – The 30th Anniversary World Tour.

The band will perform in Port Elizabeth on February 5 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium’s outer fields.

Big Concerts has also set tour dates in Johannesburg on January 31 at the Ticketpro Dome, in Durban on February 2 at the ICC Durban Arena, and in Cape Town on February 7 at the Grand Arena, GrandWest.

The shows are being organised by Big Concerts and will be presented by Kyknet, M-Net, Algoa FM and Bok Radio.

Roxette are best known for their various hits like It Must Have Been Love, Listen to Your Heart, The Look, and Dressed for Success.

Tickets go on sale on Friday at 9am from Computicket and www.bigconcerts.co.za .

In January 1995, the popular 1980s’ band, comprising of Marie Fredriksson (vocals) and Per Gessle (vocals and guitar) performed to a sold-out crowd at St George’s Park.

Roxette last visited South Africa in February 2011 to perform six shows on a tour that followed the release of the album Charm School.

Algoa FM operations manager Alfie Jay said the station was extremely excited about its involvement in the tour.

“It was really Algoa who introduced our market to Roxette all those years ago and they were here in the early 1990s.

“Now we are involved in their return and that is very exciting,” Jay said.

Algoa FM was also looking forward to introducing Roxette to a younger market.

The band’s current tour has sold out several legendary arenas such as the O2 Arena in London and Olympia in Paris.

Jay said the Roxette show would take place two days after the Rodrigues concert already planned as part of the station’s 30th anniversary celebration. The ticket price in Port Elizabeth is R510. Prices in other centres range from R395 to as high as R790. -Lee-Anne Butler
