Northern areas protest flares up again

POLICE closed Stanford Road in Port Elizabeth’s northern areas  this morning (28-07-15) as  protests flared up for a second day.

Police spokesman Captain Johan Rheeder said police had been deployed to the area to temporarily “shut down” the area between Gail Road and Windvogel Road

“At this point in time we are appealing to motorists to avoid this area,” he added.

“Our Public Order Policing unit has been deployed to the scene and are attempting to get the situation under control.”

By late morning police had closed Stanford Road from Gail Road to Windvogel.

Residents in the area started protesting yesterday over a lack of teachers at schools in the area. - Gareth Wilson
