Eight-year sentence for Home Affairs fraudster

A SENIOR Home Affairs official who defrauded the department out of R145 000 was made an example of yesterday when a Port Elizabeth court said it was high time corruption in state departments was brought to an end.

Primrose Dyonase, 45, of Algoa Park, was sentenced to an effective eight years in prison.

The Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) was also granted a confiscation order for the full amount stolen.

Dyonase, a mother of three, was employed as a control immigration officer at the department’s Port Elizabeth office at the time of the offence. -Kathryn Kimberley
