Brave mom fights motor neuron disease

THREE years after being diagnosed with motor neuron disease, former Port Elizabeth resident Tenille Ellie has been accepted for stem cell therapy scheduled from August at the Wu Medical Centre in Beijing, China.

Ellie, 34, who lives in Johannesburg with her husband, Denver, 34, and son, Tristan, two, is battling to talk and walk – but is determined to fight on.

The neurological disorder selectively affects the cells that control voluntary muscle activity and varies in severity.

The body is attacked in stages until the respiratory system fails.

The five-week treatment regime in China will delay the disease’s attack on the cells controlling Ellie’s muscles and help to prolong her life.
