Senzo Meyiwa's family frustrated over delay in life insurance payout

Nearly nine months after Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain Senzo Meyiwa was fatally shot - his relatives are yet to receive millions in a life insurance claim.

Speaking to , Senzo's father, Sam, said the process was taking long and frustrating them as it was becoming tough to take care of Senzo's young family.

The Meyiwas are set to receive R5 million from a life insurance policy taken out by his former team, Orlando Pirates and administered by Delphisure Group Insurance.

“I don’t know, I have been waiting for too long. They (Pirates) say they are still waiting for people who are supposed to pay. The other day they said they are still waiting for the police report. It’s very frustrating, even my life is in danger now,” said Sam.

According to the paper, the police may be delaying the process as they need to finalise a report to be issued to the insurance company. The delay has been exacerbated by the fact that Meyiwa's killers are yet to be brought to book.

“We are doing all we can by keeping Senzo’s father informed of the investigation and giving him feedback.

"We would love to say the case is all wrapped up. But telling the media every detail we give him is detrimental to the case," said Solomon Makgale, national police spokesperson.
