Couple seriously hurt in buffalo attack

A seriously injured woman has been airlifted to hospital from a difficult to access area in northern KwaZulu-Natal after she was attacked by a buffalo.

Her husband‚ also injured in the encounter with the animal‚ is currently being treated by a doctor on scene‚ in Mission Rock‚ about 10km north of St Lucia‚ while the flight crew is on the way back to rescue him.

KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services spokesman Robert Mckenzie said the pair sustained serious injuries.

"Two people believed to be a husband and wife have been injured following an encounter with a buffalo earlier today‚ where they were attacked and sustained serious injuries.

"Exact details and circumstances surrounding the incident are at this stage still being established and the priority is to get the injured patients to hospital‚" he said.
