Insurers take on towing firm

CONTROVERSIAL tow truck company boss Raven Rungan has come under fire from five national insurance firms, who are taking him to court because his company, V&R Auto, is not accredited to assist their clients.

The companies – Auto & General, Budget, DialDirect, First for Women and Telesure Group Services – launched an urgent application with the Port Elizabeth High Court last week.

The matter was postponed to June 4 by acting Judge Richard Brooks.

Rungan has faced a raft of accusations from vehicle owners, who alleged that V&R Auto used unscrupulous methods and charged inflated towing and storage rates when their vehicles were involved in accidents.

Vehicle owners have also claimed they battle to have their vehicles released by the company.
