Horror robbery ordeal for old couple

AN elderly Port Elizabeth couple are severely traumatised after a terrifying 11-hour ordeal which began when they were overpowered, tied up and had hot water thrown over them by three men who broke into their Kragga Kamma home at the weekend.

According to police, the 89year-old man and his 86-year-old wife were tied up by the gang who robbed them in their Butterfield Road smallholding at about 8pm on Saturday. The men fled with four firearms and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police spokesman Captain Johan Rheeder said the couple, whom he declined to name, were only freed at about 7am yesterday by an employee at their farm.
