Eastern Cape warrant officer killed

A policeman was shot and killed in the town of Libode in the Eastern Cape yesterday.

According to a South African Police Service (SAPS) media statement, Warrant Officer Mlungiseleli Dukuza, 55, was shot in the upper body and died in the hospital.

It is alleged that Dukuza along with three other SAPS members responded to a business burglary in Libode at approximately 22h00.  Upon arrival, the members were shot at by the suspects.

Police official, Constable Mluleki Madolo, 40, who was also on the scene is in a stable condition in hospital.

Dukuza had joined the SAPS on 15 January 1992.

“Our hearts go out to his loved ones and close colleagues during this difficult time. SAPS will provide all the support possible to the bereaved family. At the same time, we wish Const Madolo who was with the deceased member a speedy recovery and strength as he recuperates in hospital,” said Lt General Celiwe Binta.

The police investigation is continuing.
