Road blocked in housing protest

Tyinira Road was blocked on Friday afternoon (20/03/15) following a housing protest outside the Motherwell Police Station and police are urging commuters to use alternative routes.

The protest is part of a dispute residents are having with the municipality with regards to housing in the area.

Police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge confirmed police were on the scene and are monitoring the situation.

"We are clearing the road as best as possible. Rocks and smouldering debris is posing a problem," he added.

The protest is still underway with splinter groups disrupting traffic flow.
