Protesters burn tyres outside Motherwell Police Station

SEVERAL protesters burned tyres outside Motherwell Police Station this morning as part of a housing protest against the metro.

Residents used rocks and burning tyres to block Tyinira Road outside the station while emptying buckets of faeces on the road.

Police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge said rubber bullets and stun grenades were used to disperse the crowd.

A police water cannon truck was used to clean the road after the protest.

Beetge said that while the situation was now under control, officials were still monitoring the area.

No arrests were made during the protest.
