Notyawa backed at secret meeting

COUNCILLOR Paul Notyawa was appointed Makana municipal manager yesterday.

Mayor Zamuxolo Peter will be forced to work hand in hand with his former rival for the rest of his term – both Peter and Notyawa contended for the mayor’s position in the 2011 local government elections.

According to one of the councillors who was in the secret meeting that appointed Notyawa, two other candidates had been recommended by the interviewing panel.

They were George Ngesi, former manager of the Ndlambe Municipality, and Nceba Adonis. Outside the council chambers, Makana United Business Chamber members showed support for Notyawa.

Makana administrator Pam Yako said she could not confirm his appointment until Local Government MEC Fikile Xasa had approved it.
