WHAT was meant to be a fun-filled afternoon turned into a nightmare when a little boy’s foot was trapped under a broken merry-go-round in Richmond Hill Park.

Garcia Swanepoel had to undergo an operation at St George’s Hospital after the injuries he sustained two weeks ago.

His mother, Mariska Swanepoel, said medical staff had to remove stones, rust and metal from Garcia’s foot.

Municipal spokesman Mthubanzi Mniki said he was aware of the incident.

“We have since removed the roundabout for it to be fixed. Safety of the children is paramount to us,” Mniki said.

Schoeman, a mother of two, described how blood gushed from her son’s foot after it got stuck in the roundabout.
