Pensioner angry over long wait

Metro accused of dithering over car payment

A Nelson Mandela Bay pensioner is facing an uphill battle in getting the municipality to pay for damages to his car after a tree fell on his Chrysler Neon in December.

Cecil Ellis, 64, of Villiers Road, Walmer, said the freak accident, which occurred on December 12, had turned his life upside down as he remained confined to home, or had to hire a car, while the municipality dithered over payment.

This is despite the fact that the municipality had taken responsibility for the accident.

Prior to the accident, residents in the area had told the municipality that the tree was a hazard and had asked for it to be cut down, but to no avail.
