Hewitt lawyers to seek discharge

Former tennis coach allegedly told pupil ‘rape is enjoyable’

Bob Hewitt’s lawyers will today ask the court to dismiss all charges against the former doubles tennis champion. This, after the third and last alleged victim of Hewitt, 75, took the stand in the Johannesburg High Court sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The woman, 37, who by order of the court cannot be named, said her former tennis coach of three years told her that “rape is enjoyable in all cases” and that she had to “lie down and enjoy it”.

Hewitt, of Addo, faces two charges of rape and one of sexual assault after three of his former students accused him of abusing them while they were under age.
