Pupil may lose sight in eye after javelin strike

A young girl may lose all sight in her left eye after being speared by a javelin on her school playground.

Mihle Manono, a Grade 7 pupil at Esethu Primary School in Indwe, was rushed to an East London hospital following the accident on Tuesday.

The javelin, which struck the 12year-old girl just below her left eyebrow and injured her eye, was thrown by a fellow pupil.

Mihle was first rushed to Indwe Hospital but because the hospital did not have the necessary equipment or doctors to treat the injury, she was transferred to Cecilia Makiwane Hospital.
