Loops blows away big crowd at Bay festival

Singer-songwriter Jeremy Loops’s finetuned brain for finance seems to contribute to his music-making techniques that had about 2 000 party-goers jiving and singing at the SummerJam Festival at McArthur Pools in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

It was only after completing high school at SACS and Reddam House in Cape Town that Loops first picked up a guitar and started strumming for relaxation while studying towards his honours degree in business science at the University of Cape Town.

Now the talented music man’s cleverly precisioned technique of looping [a repeated section of sound material, created by using a wide range of music technologies] has earned him the respect of not only the hip and happening, but also the older generation.

“I forced myself to do a degree majoring in property development and finance to balance my creativity. It took me out of my comfort zone.

“Now it also contributes to my music – 35% is about the singing and the songwriting, and the rest is the business side,” Loops said before the show.
