Cunningham arrested again – this time after dad assaulted

Hot-tempered former fitness trainer Brent Cunningham has for the second time in less than two weeks allegedly been involved in a violent altercation – this time with his father, a primary school principal.

Cunningham, 23, allegedly assaulted his father, Malcolm, 56, so badly at their house in Lorraine that he had to be treated in hospital for his injuries.

According to some of their neighbours, the fight between father and son started early yesterday morning in their townhouse off Montmedy Road.

“It was much worse than it had ever been before. At one stage, it sounded like an animal was being slaughtered,” one shocked neighbour said.

When police arrested Cunningham at about 6pm yesterday, the neighbour’s first reaction was to ask reporters on the scene who had been murdered.

An unresisting Cunningham, who covered his head with a white hoodie, first spoke to a group of eight police officers in his bedroom before being taken into custody.

Three police vans escorted him back to the Walmer police station, where he is believed to have spent the night behind bars.
