Tuk-tukking on three wheels for charity

A GROUP of matriculants have spent the past 10 days travelling from Johannesburg to Cape Town in three tuk-tuks. And it’s all in the name of charity.

The seven pupils from four Johannesburg schools – St John’s College, St Benedict’s College, Bishop Bavin School and Beaulieu College – are raising funds for their Project Colour which aims to revamp the St Francis Care Centre, an HIV/Aids hospice in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg.

The three-wheeled vehicles, worth about R140 000, are being sponsored by Atul Auto Port Elizabeth.

Atul Auto’s Lallie Claasen said they had decided to sponsor the initiative as the benefits realised through it by St Francis Care Centre as well as the communities that would be touched throughout South Africa were gigantic.

“Its successful completion will also benefit the Atul three wheeler’s reputation as a reliable, affordable vehicle for the South African market.”

The pupils have managed to raise R100 000 so far for the centre, which accommodates 48 adults and 30 neglected and orphaned children.
