Hackers order Bay doctors to pay

COMPUTER hackers are holding one of Port Elizabeth’s top paediatric practices to ransom, threatening to crash its IT system and encrypt thousands of medical records if a demand of R35000 is not paid.

The offices of Gebers & Partners found out they had fallen victim to the ransom cyber attack on Monday.

Paediatrician Dr Dave Purchase said the practice’s offices at both Greenacres and St George’s hospitals had been targeted.

Spokeswomen at both hospitals said the institutions’ systems had not been affected.
