Scam e-mail using Parliament's emblem circulating

A scam e-mail containing Parliament's emblem is doing the rounds, the legislature warned in a statement on Wednesday.

"Parliament disassociates itself from the scam e-mail letter, featuring Parliament's emblem and that of government," the statement said.

"The scam letter informs the recipient of the e-mail letter that their 'contract/inheritance/Wining (sic) file' has been verified and asks the recipient to forward their details."

The e-mail further informs recipients that Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene had given an "instruction" on how the payment should be made to recipients.

"The scam letter is in the name of Mr Mcebisi Jonas, the Deputy Minister of Finance, but who the letter says is the 'Chairperson, Finance Portfolio Committee'," Parliament said.

"Similar scam e-mails have circulated in previous years and the revised version referred to above is now doing the rounds."
