Schools, churches working together

THE National Association of School Governing Bodies (NASGB) in Nelson Mandela Bay will hold a debate with faith-based organisations in the city tomorrow, focusing on how best to promote partnerships between schools and communities.

The debate, which will include the Roman Catholic, Anglican, Ethiopian, Methodist and Presbyterian churches, will also lay a foundation for next year's school governing body elections.

Bay NASGB acting chairwoman Nombuyo Mbiko said the debate would be held at St Stephen's Anglican Church hall in New Brighton from 8.30am.

"The main purpose is to engage stakeholders in a dialogue on challenges that confront education, especially in our public schools, and in particular, the township schools of the Port Elizabeth district," she said. - Thulani Gqirana
