Illegal connection electrocutes man

KUYGA residents in Port Elizabeth watched in horror yesterday as a young man was electrocuted in the early hours of the morning due to an illegal electricity connection.

Timothy Williams, 22, was walking between two houses in Jansen Street when he stepped on barbed wire dividing two gardens.

What he did not realise was that live wires from an illegal electricity connection were touching the barbed wire.

Sofie Miggels, 61, was woken up at about 3am by the sound of screaming outside.

"At first I was afraid to go outside. You hear so many stories of people tricking others and then robbing or hurting them," she said.

When she went outside she saw Williams writhing in agony and rushed to help him.

"As I reached out to him, I accidentally stepped on the same wire. I got a shock and was thrown against the outside wall of my house. - Riaan Marais
