BLOOD-STAINED shoes, a body bag dripping with blood and death threats against witnesses are just some of the gory details that emerged at the formal bail application of two men accused of the gruesome murder of a Chinese court interpreter.

The two men – aged 42 and 50, who cannot be named until they have participated in an identity parade – appeared briefly in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court yesterday.

A third man arrested in connection with the murder was released on Friday after the charges against him were withdrawn.

The men were arrested earlier this month and charged with the murder of Zhi Duan Huang, 37, at the Jade Gardens restaurant at the Dolphins Leap centre in Humewood on October 5.

Although a body was found buried in a shallow grave near the Swartkops River Mouth this month, it has not yet been positively identified. A sword with human hair on it, believed to be the murder weapon, was allegedly discovered in a vehicle. - Lee-Anne Butler
