THE father of slain Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University student Tshepiso Sithole yesterday expressed relief as the Port Elizabeth High Court found her lover and former teacher guilty of her murder.
Judge Murray Lowe found that the state had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Mutshutshu Muvhango, 39, had strangled Tshepiso, 18, to death with her laptop charger.
Muvhango, a married father of two, stood expressionless as Lowe found him guilty of murder and the theft of one cellphone.
Tshepiso’s body was discovered locked in the room of her Gomery Place, Summerstrand, student residence on June 26 2011, a week after she had last been seen alive.
Muvhango, of Pretoria, had been visiting her in Port Elizabeth where she was enrolled as a first-year civil engineering student at the time of her death.
Yesterday, her emotional father, Freddy, said: “I am very relieved. I know that nothing will bring my daughter back but at least now I know what happened. I will always miss her.” – Lee-Anne Butler
