Professor's CV fraud hearing starts today

SUSPENDED Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University's former dean of arts, Professor Velile Notshulwana, will know his fate soon, with his disciplinary hearing set to take place today and tomorrow.

Notshulwana, who was being investigated by the institution for CV fraud, was placed on precautionary suspension a month ago pending the outcome of the hearing.

His suspension came a day after The Herald's exposé about alleged false claims on his CV and revelations that his qualifications and work experience were being investigated by the university.

The university would not comment on what the outcome of the hearing would mean for Notshulwana, but if found guilty, this could spell the end of his academic career.

NMMU spokeswoman Roslyn Baatjies said the university did not want to pre-empt the findings.

"In accordance with our disciplinary code, if an employee is found guilty and subsequently dismissed, he may refer the matter to the CCMA," she said. - Zandile Mbabela
