College boss replaced amid probe

EASTCAPE Midlands College boss Jamangile "JJ" Mbana has been replaced, with the institution's campus manager Deon Roux taking on the role in an acting capacity.

Declining to comment yesterday, Mbana said: "[I do] not deal with the media."

His removal comes as the Department of Higher Education and Training's (DHET)financial investigation into the college continues.

Along with the beleaguered Port Elizabeth College, it is being investigated after staff allegations of corruption, nepotism and gross maladministration.

The investigation came after DHET director-general Gwebinkundla Qonde visited the institutions, which have been plagued by rolling protests by students and staff affiliated to the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu).

Qonde would not divulge details of the investigations or Mbana's fate, only saying that it was unfair to engage the media. - Zandile Mbabela
