VEEPLAAS residents marched to the Kwazakhele police station in Port Elizabeth yesterday to lobby for the release of two people arrested for burning down a shack belonging to an alleged robber.
About 60 men and women walked from Veeplaas to the station, where they sat peacefully outside for a couple of hours.
One resident, who declined to be named, said: “A resident was robbed and stabbed between Veeplaas and Zinyoka where we are victims all the time.
“So when the community found out about it, they went to the shack where they knew one of the robbers lives.
“The shack was burnt, but the two community members were singled out after they were pointed out to the police by the mother of the alleged robber.” – Thulani Gqirana
