RED Location residents, who have been without electricity for two days, believe similar problems with power in suburbs are dealt with faster.
About 100 residents gathered in Mandela Street yesterday, 24 hours after their TVs, radios, stoves and fridges blew due to an electricity surge.
Residents in Mandela, Pemba, Mahlangu and Calata streets had been without electricity from noon on Tuesday.
Resident Lungisa Gitywa said the electricity went off after thieves stole cables from a transformer.
“There was a sudden surge of electricity and then most of our appliances that were linked to sockets blew.
“Since then, we have seen only one electrician in the area, and he promised to come back [yesterday].
“I’m sure if this had happened in the northern areas or Newton Park, the municipality would be falling all over themselves working to fix it.” – Thulani Gqirana
